Memories

— To the memories that we create and the moments that make them.

What is common among us all,
Childhood, adolescence, adulthood, old age alike
Reminiscent of all that we’ve been through
The highs, the lows, exhilarations and depressions
They’re the memories, keeping everything alive within,
No matter wherever you go, who you meet.

The best of victories, the worst of setbacks,
Joys of celebration, gloom of heartbreaks
Souvenirs from loved ones, travelogues from trips gone by
Within you they remain, symbols of ecstasy and pain.

Let go of them, and the world feels lighter, but tarnished
Hold on to them, and you understand your traits, your life
The origins, the beginnings
Everything attached like a string which plays various chords.

The first instance of doing something, to the first friends
That of reading a book, playing cricket or having your first crush
From the love that you shared, to the people that you cared for
All is inscribed, still in those memories.
They keep tingling, one after the other
Something, sometimes with a frown or a smile,
But they’re the ones that actually keep you alive.
