The boy is wrong. Always?

We live in a society where crimes against women have grown exponentially over the last few decades. The fact to be noted is that most of them aren’t even reported, yet the numbers are staggering. Stats have shown that about 88 rape cases take place in India everyday as of 2019. These trends show a brutal picture when it comes to Women Safety in our country.

But do we know every aspect of this translucent picture? Maybe not. Better to say, Surely not.

We know only what the social media and the press have to offer. This puts other major criminal activities happening against other communities in the dark and the communities themselves, in jeopardy. The question, ‘Is every reported rape case a genuine one?’ truly stands out, especially in a scenario where fake-feminism seems to be on the incline. The society, in such situations, turns soft on the ‘female side’ without even knowing whether it is a genuine assault or not.

True, for quite a long time, the reportage was very low and so when rapes are reported, the man is always at the disposal of people’s rage. But should it not be confirmed first and then the accused be punished? Many reports have shown that a lot of these cases are fake and arise due to the feeling of vengeance and egoism, leading to money extortion, attention, sympathy, publicity etc. Such false cases are never donned by the media as they may not be able to portray their so called feminist propaganda later. And the results, are scary to be honest.

The boy’s side of the story never is truly listened to, their families disown them, shame pouring from all around, they find no place to escape. You may talk about them being supported, but the reality says otherwise. They become subject to mental trauma and severe criticism. Often nobody comes to their aid, and eventually, losing the hope of even ‘Being Heard’, they put their lives to an end.

Are we not at fault to support whatever made-up news we come across indirectly, even before checking its genuineness? Even before the accusation is proved to be correct? Certainly we are, because this crime has surfaced in the society and is on a rise as well. And yes, the perpetrator goes unpunished, owing to the ‘deep sympathies’ that we have for them. Men mostly find themselves on the wrong side of the Law, and the woman tries to take advantage in some way or the other.

To go by the numbers, Rape allegations made to police or campus authority are estimated to be false approximately 2% to 10% of the time. The numbers are alarming, but are often ignored, as they do not sound as ‘Catchy’ to the eye as ‘Supporting a Woman’s cause’. People would simply say what is their fault in believing the girl, given they have always been victims of such felonies by men for ages, trying to get their hands clean. I think it is correctly said, ‘The boy is guilty until proven innocent.’

Whatever the cause of this hate is, has got to be eradicated. Everyone deserves their chance to prove themselves innocent, and if they are not subjected to it, then Justice can never be served the rightful way. It is important that we listen to both sides of the story before judging someone guilty or innocent. The surge in the support of the girl all the time is definitely not justified, and needs to be taken very seriously. Someone’s life is at stake people, nobody has the right to declare their judgment before the crime is proven.

To be honest, men and women both face brutality. Nobody is completely safe. Just declaring one community obnoxious isn’t going to help. The solution lies in knowing the people around you and making them aware of what they could be victims of. Grassroots have got to be strong, for the boy as well as the girl. Upbringing and environment are the causes of a person’s behavior. If we see a problem there, it has to be fixed then and there itself. Otherwise we could have monsters breeding around us without our knowledge.

Also, Staying true to your morals will definitely help in establishing much needed peace.
